  • Responsibilities
    The Systems Administrator assists in the day to day operations of campus networks and support servers and services, including physical and virtual environments, by providing software installations, updates, system backups and second tier user support.

    1. Manages or assists in the deployment of software installation.
    2. Coordinates first tier support network access issues (user account management).
    3. Ensures business continuity by recovering systems from hardware or software failures.
    4. Creates or assists in creating or checking computer images.
    5. Assists in managing and deploying servers and directories as applicable.
    6. Develops and maintains detailed configuration documentation of non-standard software and installation procedures.
    7. Diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves software or other network and system issues.
    8. Monitors logs for performance issues and collaborates with supervisor to resolve them.
    9. Monitors computer networks and servers to ensure high availability and reports concerns to supervisor.
    10. Communicates concerns and timeframes for changes and resolutions to internal clients.
    11. Performs all site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.

    1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.
    2. Two years of experience in a medium to large IT environment.
    3. One year of direct experience of field support in a medium to large network setting.
    4. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Windows servers, Linux, Directory Services.

    1. Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.
    2. Three years of experience in a medium to large IT support staff.

    1. Ability to plan and implement technical projects as required.
    2. Strong customer service, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    3. Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy Management, Domain Name Systems, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, HCP and New Technology File System permissions and Security Group Management.
    4. Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, Local Area Network, Wide Area Network, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, PHP, Remote Authentication Dial In User Service.
    5. Knowledge of VMWare and other virtualization technologies.
    6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients and the college community.
    7. Ability to learn new technologies, systems, and software quickly and adapt to change on an ongoing basis.
    8. Demonstrates a professional, courteous demeanor.
    9. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    10. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions;
    11. Ability to communicate with administration, faculty, students and highly technical support personnel on related topics in a technical and non-technical manner.
    12. Excellent organizational and diagnostic skills with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks.
    13. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.

    1. Works in an office environment.
    2. May travel between campuses and to other local destinations.
    3. May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
    4. Work requires lifting equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.

    The College anticipates that the position incumbent must be available throughout the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours. Therefore, as a condition of employment, the incumbent is expected to be available by cell phone and is required to provide their current cell phone number to the Office of Human Resources and to their immediate supervisor. Additional compensation is included in the incumbent's base pay to compensate for time and any incremental expenses.
