Job Summary
Provides advanced consultation and employs a variety of computational sequence analysis (mathematical and computing) tools to model and analyze biological data in support of researchers.
Accesses, extracts and prepares data for analysis, including combining data run on multiple platforms as well as externally generated data in support of meta-analyses.
Installs, configures, customizes, and supports analytical software for data on research clusters; develops advanced software and programming scripts for software and workflow systems utilized by researchers as needed.
Reviews, as well as undertakes, performance and reliability assessments to ensure systems are performing to maximum productivity and scientific validity.
Ensures proper documentation of consultation, analysis, and quality control efforts; often contributes to grant proposal and report writing.
Researches, evaluates, makes recommendations, and guides the implementation of new and emerging technology (open source, software, systems), approaches, and best practices.
May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to junior peers.
Note: This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree
Preferred
Degree in either a life science (biology, microbiology, biochemistry, etc.) or in computer science with a specialty in bioinformatics
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years of research technology support, large biological data analysis, or related experience

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
